| Abstract | Hyperacidity, or Amlapitta, is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by an excess of gastric acid secretion leading to symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. It results probably due to an imbalance between the aggressive (acid, pepsin, bile and H. pylori) and the defensive (gastric mucus and bicarbonate secretion, prostaglandins, nitric oxide, high mucosal blood flow, innate resistance of the mucosal cells) factors. [1] Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, describes several herbal formulations that restore digestive balance naturally. Avipattikar Churna has been utilized in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The formulation's traditional uses highlight its role in alleviating hyperacidity, acid reflux, gastritis, indigestion, and constipation, among other gastrointestinal disturbances. Avipattikar Churna is esteemed for its balancing effect on the Pitta dosha, according to Ayurvedic principles, thereby restoring digestive harmony. [2] Ayurveda describes herbal or polyherbal or herbo-mineral medicines such as Avipattikar churna for treatment of Amlapitta, ajirna for centuries.[3] Avipattikar Churna is a classical Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation widely prescribed for Amlapitta (acid-peptic disorders), constipation, piles, urinary disorders, and Prameha. It is composed of Triphala, Trikatu, Trivat, Musta, Vidanga, Ela, Patra, Lavanga and sarkara. [4] |
