Learners’ Practices on Khan Academy Platform and Their Skills Proficiency in Mathematics

| Abstract | Learners’ engagement with the Khan Academy platform and their skills proficiency in mathematics play an important role in improving conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning in technology-supported learning environments. However, results from the 2022 Program for International Student Assessment revealed continuing difficulties in Mathematics among Filipino learners, highlighting the need for digital learning approaches. This study examined the relationship between learners’ practices on the Khan Academy platform and their skills proficiency in mathematics among Grade 8 learners, based on their Grade 7 engagement during the school year 2024–2025. Specifically, it identified learners’ level of platform practices, determined their mathematics skills proficiency, and examined the relationship between these variables. A descriptive-correlational research design was used involving 200 Grade 8 learners from five public secondary schools in Misamis Oriental, selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered using a researcher-made questionnaire and a Mathematics proficiency test and were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient. Findings showed that learners demonstrated a practiced level of engagement with the Khan Academy platform, with proficiency tracking obtaining the highest mean. Their mathematics skills proficiency was described as approaching proficiency, with reasoning receiving the highest mean and data analysis rated as developing. Results further revealed significant positive relationships between platform practices and mathematics skills proficiency. The study concluded that engagement with the Khan Academy platform is significantly associated with mathematics skills proficiency. School heads, teachers, learners, and future researchers may strengthen strategies that effectively support platform integration and improved mathematics learning outcomes among learners. |
