| Abstract | Artificial Intelligence (AI) is redefining the future of education by transforming teaching, learning, and teacher preparation across the world. In India, the rapid expansion of digital technologies and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 have created a strong foundation for integrating AI into teacher education. This paper explores how AI can prepare future educators in India with the digital, pedagogical, and professional competencies required to meet the evolving demands of 21st Century classrooms. The study is based on a comprehensive review of recent literature, policy documents and contemporary educational practices related to AI in teacher education. It examines the potential of AI-powered tools in enhancing personalized learning, lesson planning, intelligent assessment, classroom management, and continuous professional development. The review highlights that AI not only improves teaching efficiency and learner engagement but also support inclusive competency-based and data-informed educational practices. At the same time, it identifies significant infrastructure, limited AI literacy among teacher’s educators, ethical concerns, data privacy, algorithmic bias, and unequal access to technology. The study emphasizes that the successful integration of AI requires strategic policy implementation, institutional readiness, faculty capacity building and the development of ethical guidelines for responsible AI use. It concludes that AI has the potential to transform teacher education in India by empowering future educators with innovative teaching skills, critical digital competencies, and lifelong learning abilities, thereby creating a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready education system for India’s digital era. |
