| Abstract | Rivers are vital lifelines of the planet, providing freshwater, habitat for biodiversity, fertile floodplains for agriculture, and essential resources for human civilization. However, increasing pollution, deforestation, industrialization, and climate change have severely degraded many of the world’s river systems. Conservation efforts seek to maintain or restore the natural flow, water quality, and ecological balance of rivers while meeting human and developmental needs responsibly. It is immensely important and imperative to conserve rivers. This paper will delve into the matters of how rivers are sought to be conserved in India. The paper highlights the significance of conservation of rivers and its positive effects and examines the major challenges that threaten its availability and quality, and propose solutions for sustainable management. Given the increasing global population and the impacts of climate change, effective conservation of rivers management is crucial for ensuring water security and supporting economic development. The paper concludes with recommendations and suggestions as to how there can be better conservation of rivers by the Government of India as well as the Indian citizens. |
