Periodontal Abscess: A Review

Abstract A periodontal abscess is a localized purulent infection affecting the supporting structures of a tooth. Unlike periapical abscesses, which originate from the pulp, periodontal abscesses arise from pre-existing periodontal pockets or due to trauma, obstruction, or foreign body impaction. This review summarizes the etiology, clinical features, differential diagnosis, and management strategies for periodontal abscesses, with an emphasis on timely intervention to prevent further periodontal breakdown.
