Abstract | ABSTRACT Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the Indian Economy . Our Motherland is blessed with vast Irrigable and culturable land resources. But the present scenario of Agriculture depicts pictures of Acres of open land , infertile no- tilled soils, unsatisfied farmers struggling to accord with climate change and its impact like hotter temperatures, drought , inadequate rain and floods which lead to low crop yield and income . These declining scenarios due to urbanization led to Anthropogenic activities pushing India’s leading Economy behind and as well as a great threat to food security. It's high time to bring about Sustainable practices in agriculture which aims at Economical Eco-friendly alternative new solutions for society in view to protect the planet and people, globally as well. Water and soil being major resources to be conserved in agricultural practices and this new method of Horticulture or Hydroculture which has a true meaning of “ working water” , saves both resources .It gives a new meaning to conventional Agriculture as “ GO GREEN” AND “ GROW ANYWHERE” . Traditional agriculture needs nutrient rich soil as anchoring media ,Hydroponics is soil less agriculture. The anchoring media soil is skipped with an alternative matrix to anchor the plants and optimum amount of water mixed with exact quantity of nutrients,is supplied to crops , saving valuable Resources to achieve greater yield of crops. There are multiple approaches and practices to “Grow anywhere” in horizontal and vertical patterns . Hydroponics can be used in closed spaces or onsite areas with small and large scale benefits . The systems vary in range as Aeroponics ,Deep water culture , Nutrient film Technic and many more . This paper aims in unfolding these emerging systems of practices , methodologies,, opportunities, operational suitability in regard to sustainability to and its future scope of research and entrepreneurial ideas , to the participants in conference to take baby steps in this soilless Agriculture as India is indeed in need of sustainable practices of Agriculture . This system has high efficiency in the use of water, fertilizers and has a promised yield leading to high productivity of the crop . |
