Aging behind bars: Narrative of Challenges, Coping Mechanisms and Resilience Among elder person deprived of liberty

Abstract This study was conducted to determine the narratives of challenges, copingmechanism and resilience among elder person deprived of liberty. Livinginside prison confinement as an elder considered as double jeopardyinasense that the elder person lives inside the most chaotic and unsuitableplacewhich is, prison, at the same time fighting the challenges of aging. Thepiecesof evidence gathered between January and April this year, fromRamonMagsaysay Memorial Colleges- Marbel Inc. This narrative exploresthechallenges faced by an elderly individual deprived of their liberty. It delvesintothe coping mechanisms they employ to navigate this challenges situationandhighlights their resilience in the face of adversity. The narrative sheds light onthe emotional, psychological, and social impacts of confinement onelderperson deprived of liberty, while also offering a glimpse into their inner strengthand resourcefulness. Through this exploration, the narrative aims toraiseawareness about the importance of upholding the rights and well-beingof elders, even in situations where their freedom is restricted. Thus, Theresearchemphasizes the narratives of elder people deprived of liberty intheirchallenges, coping mechanisms, and resilience inside prison confinement asthey faced the imprisonment at an elder stage, which is consideredthemost crucial, and further discusses the underlying factors that are beneficial totheircoping strategies inside prison, which will give effective feedback toprisonfacilities in recognizing the challenges and providing support systems, especially for elder people as they fight for the challenges inside prisonandface aging as they live inside
