Abstract This qualitative study sought to explore the motivations and commitments of volunteer rescuers. The study used semi-structured interviews with 6 Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction participants to acquire a better understanding of their experiences and viewpoints. The findings found that the major motivators for volunteering were a sense of responsibility to help others, a desire to make a good difference. Furthermore, many participants reported a strong sense of fulfillment and shared purpose among their fellow volunteers, which fueled their motivations to the organization.
