Abstract In prokaryotes, the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) system provides adaptive immunity against phages and plasmids. This technique led to the development of the powerful genome engineering tool known as the CRISPR/CRISPR-associated nuclease 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) genome editing system. The CRISPR/Cas9 technique has significantly increased our understanding of cancer genetics by being used to study the functions of genes associated with cancer, generate animal models of tumors, and find possible therapeutic targets due to its high efficacy and accuracy.
Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9), commonly referred to as genome editing technology, is notable among them, has developed into a fascinating application in science, even winning the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Compared to current technologies, this technology offers benefits such increased speed, affordability, and accuracy, and it finds use in a variety of fields. This review's objective is to provide an overview of earlier studies on CRISPR-Cas9, a technology that is widely used in many scientific domains, in order to offer direction for further research
