Abstract | The optimization of the physical domain in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) design plays a critical role in improving chip performance, reducing power consumption, and minimizing area. As VLSI circuits become more complex with increased transistor density, the physical design phase—including floorplanning, placement, and routing—requires advanced methodologies to meet stringent design constraints. This paper explores strategies for enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of physical domain design, focusing on algorithmic improvements, automation tools, and emerging design techniques. Emphasis is placed on timing closure, signal integrity, and thermal management to ensure the overall reliability and functionality of integrated circuits. The study also reviews recent developments in machine learning and AI-driven optimization techniques for physical design, offering insights into future trends and challenges in the VLSI design landscape. |
