Abstract | Abstract Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive degenerative joint disorder that predominantly affects individuals aged 40–55 years, causing pain, stiffness, and impaired physical function. Non-pharmacological interventions, including therapeutic exercises, have shown promise in improving joint health and overall quality of life. Aim: To assess the effectiveness of bone strengthening exercises on the osteoarthritic index among patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Methods: A quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group pre-test and post-test design was employed. Sixty patients aged 40–55 years diagnosed with osteoarthritis were selected using non-probability convenience sampling and divided equally into experimental and control groups. The intervention consisted of a 21-day bone strengthening exercise regimen (grip ball, elastic band, calf stretch, and hamstring stretch), delivered via video demonstration for 15–20 minutes daily. The Modified WOMAC Index Scale was used to assess pain, stiffness, and physical function. Results: Within the experimental group, a significant reduction in osteoarthritic index scores was observed post-intervention (Mean = 28.5 ± 3.91) compared to pre-intervention scores (Mean = 51.4 ± 10.17), with a paired t-value of -13.62 (p < 0.001). Between-group analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in post-test scores (t = -13.58, p < 0.001), demonstrating the effectiveness of bone strengthening exercises in reducing OA symptoms. Conclusion: Bone strengthening exercises significantly reduced the osteoarthritic index, indicating their potential as an effective non-pharmacological intervention for managing osteoarthritis symptoms. Incorporating such exercises into routine care may enhance physical function and patient well-being. |
