Abstract | As we know the word “ethics” is derived from the Greek word “ethos” (character) and from the Latin word “mores “(customs). Ethics is also often called moral philosophy. As we look around, value system is going down the drain with each passing day. We were often told by our elders that ethics are a yardstick that guides us to make a positive impact through our decisions and actions. Ethics is what guides us to tell the truth, keep our promises and help those who are in need. But these ethics are disappearing like sparrows in our courtyard, which have become an extinct species now. The society has become valueless and values are missing in today’s generation. I strongly feel that today’s children need to be taught ethics and morality along with their curriculum. A person might be a very good scientist or a Doctor or a technocrat but may not be a good human being. To my mind being a good human being is much more important than being anything else and it is a very difficult task which can be achieved only through ethics and morality. A valueless society needs Ethics, which act like a beacon for an aimless ship, ‘Society’. |
