Book Review on Indigenous Paddy Culture: Wisdom and Traditions of Tribes of Jharkhand

Abstract The reviewed book in on paddy culture of tribal. Paddy, a staple for over 60% of the global population, has immense agricultural and cultural signifi-cance. This book explores the paddy-growing traditions of the Oraon and Sadan communities in Jhar-khand, India, emphasizing their ecological and cultural ties. Divided into three sections, the first part examines the diffusion of paddy in Jharkhand, the ethnic iden-tities of Oraon and Sadan, and the social networks and livelihood interdependence shaped by paddy cultivation. The second section explores paddy’s role in social and religious ceremonies, folk traditions, and rituals, highlighting shared values of equality, collective economy, and artistic expression through dance, music, and cuisine.
