Labour Market Regulations and Foreign Direct Investment: Implications for Sustainable Economic Growth in Selected Sub-Saharan African Countries

Abstract | This study examines the relationship between labour market regulations and foreign direct investment, and how they influence economic growth in selected Sub-Saharan African countries. Using panel data from 2000 to 2024 for Nigeria, Rwanda, Egypt, and South Africa, the study applies System GMM to address endogeneity and dynamic effects, explores the mediating role of FDI and moderating influence of institutional quality and human capital. Findings reveal that labour regulations impact growth through FDI, human development and trade openness emerge as the strongest long-term drivers of growth. The study contributes to policy on labour-investment frameworks aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. |
