Abstract | The Vāda Paramparā (वाद-परम्परा), or debate tradition of India, originated in Vedic brahmodya and matured in Upaniṣadic saṃvāda. Systematized in the Nyāya Sūtras as vāda, jalpa, and vitaṇḍā, it was enriched by Buddhist and Jaina thinkers. Flourishing in courts, monasteries, and learning centers, it fostered rational inquiry, pluralism, and truth-seeking. The study follows a historical and analytical method, using primary sources such as the Vedas, Upaniṣads, Nyāya Sūtras, Buddhist and Jaina texts. A comparative and discribtive approach is applied to trace the origin, evolution, and significance of the Vāda Paramparā in Indian philosophy. |
