Abstract | Abstract: When Pico Iyer began his travels writings, he wanted to know how Rambo conquered Asian countries, which had previously been under the colonial rule. Pico Iyer travelled to Bali, realised that Paradise might not be lost after all. Then in Tibet, he checked on how Tibet was faring as the world's last secret to be revealed to full view. Pico Iyer wants to know how pop culture and imperialism perforate through the world's most ancient civilisations, and began to uncover more startling, subtle and complex things than he ever anticipated. Pico Iyer then reveal how in this world, where the movie stars like Amitabh Bachan and Raj Kapoor have become gods and celluloid heroes. To travel with Pico Iyer, is like experiencing the seductions and ironies, trials and tribulations of today's Asian cultures - and our own. |
