Abstract This study systematically reviews firm-level evidence on corporate sustainability strategies and renewable energy adoption within emerging economies. Using the PRISMA 2020 framework, 68 empirical studies published between 2005 and 2025 were analyzed across databases including Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect. The review identifies key theoretical perspectives—primarily the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Institutional Theory—explaining how internal capabilities and external pressures jointly shape renewable energy integration. Findings reveal that firms adopt renewable energy to achieve cost efficiency, innovation, and reputational gains, while facing barriers such as financial constraints, regulatory uncertainty, and limited technical expertise. Organizational leadership, green innovation capabilities, and stakeholder engagement emerge as critical enablers of adoption. Empirical evidence suggests that renewable energy initiatives enhance environmental and reputational performance, with mixed financial outcomes due to contextual factors. The review highlights research gaps in longitudinal analysis, SME engagement, and cross-country comparisons, proposing an integrated framework linking institutional support and firm-level capabilities. Overall, this synthesis contributes to understanding how emerging-market firms align competitiveness with environmental stewardship in transitioning toward low-carbon economies.
