Abstract | This paper explores the semiotic dimensions of Indian classical dance with a special focus on Bharatanatyam. Drawing from semiotic theory and classical Indian aesthetics, it analyzes how gestures, expressions, body movements, costumes, and rhythmic elements serve as signs that communicate meaning. Through both traditional textual references like the Natyashastra and modern semiotic frameworks, the study examines how Bharatanatyam functions as a visual language. It concludes by highlighting the importance of shared cultural codes and the evolving nature of signification in contemporary practice. |
